Star Stuff: Mars in Virgo to Nov. 12

Mars is the planet of action, energy, and motivation, and spends 7 to 8 weeks in each sign (unless retrograde).

mars-in-virgo

Last week, Mars changed signs from fun-loving, risk-taking Leo to detail-oriented, practical, service-oriented Virgo, where it will journey until November 12th.

With Mars in Virgo, we are more inclined to put our energy towards a project that takes care of our day-to-day, practical matters or a health issues. There is a greater potential to be “workaholic” now, and to have very little patience for flaws.  This is a great time to engage in a physical outlet with the notion of improving health.

Creating order in our daily lives and knowing what’s coming next is easier for us now. We are better at organizing, planning on a short-term scale, and doing errands at this time. We may feel that we do things better than others right now; therefore we may not give others a chance to improve their skills or show us a different way of doing something.

As best as you can, keep the focus on yourself and watch out for impatient outbursts or for the need to be right at all cost. Be of service to others, and remember that perfection is not a goal, it is a journey. How can you move towards improving things in your life, rather than having things be perfect all the time?

If you have an Aries Sun-sign or Rising-sign, you are going to feel more focused on details and health issues. If you are a Virgo Sun-sign or Rising sign, you will feel quite energized and passionate for the next 6.5 weeks. Channeling this energy into physical exercise, a work or health project might be advisable.

tonight’s eclipse: slow down, surrender, allow the shift

From VirgoMagic, my notes in blue

With the Eclipse in the sign of the Ram, we’re feeling into the essential Aries questions: Who am I? and What do I want? We’re feeling into where the spark of vitality, our passion, our desire, is calling us NOW.  This Eclipse is a lot about releasing old ideas of who we “should” be, who we used to be, and what we used to want. Shedding a layer, letting go of what no longer feels aligned with our true self, uncovering more of our present-time authenticity.

There’s the potential for some serious emotional reactivity – especially anger (and anger’s cousins: frustration, crankiness, irritability). Anger can help us identify what we really want, and are not allowing ourselves to have, and where we need to take action and/or set a boundary. However! The Aries South Node warns not to act from an emotionally-charged state of anger, impatience or judgment. The Libra North Node points to the best way forward, and recommends slowing down, taking some deep breaths, seeing situations from another’s perspective, objectively weighing out all sides of an issue, and creating fair, just and beautiful outcomes.

neptune in piscesAccess the witchy power of Mars in Virgo by stepping up your self-care habits, purifying your body, and cleaning your home – both the physical and energetic “stuff” that’s accumulated (light up that sage…). Activate your Spiritual Warrior through prayer, meditation, ritual, surrendering to the Mystery while fully grounded and centered in your body and in present time.

And! Deepening the underwordly, lost-in-the-dark, shadow-revealing, pressurized qualities of the Eclipse, Pluto – God/Goddess of the Underworld – is stationing, preparing to turn from Retrograde to Direct (forward) on Thursday (11:57pm Pacific). Pluto turned Retrograde on April 16, just a few days before the Aries New Moon, and we’re now revisiting themes from that time. As I asked in my April 15 postWhat needs to be released so that more of your true self can emerge? What’s the “deadwood” in your life that’s holding you back from acting on your deepest desires? Where are you stifling or suppressing your creative energy because you’re following someone else’s rules?

Whew, yes, a lot going on. Breathing, breathing. More breathing.

For deeper insight into what Sunday’s Lunar Eclipse means for YOU, find the house in your birth chart that contains 4 degrees Aries. The areas of life signified by that house are where:  change is brewing, volatile energy is erupting, and something from the past is coming to culmination, fruition or completion; where you’re being called to activate your Spiritual Warrior; and where you’re asking the Aries questions, What do I really want? Where is my vitality and excitement calling me? What would it look like to express more of my true self?

There’s a lot of energetic focus on being authentic lately – being more of who we really are. I’ve felt this energy in my slow process of coming out of the (broom) closet to more people one by one. I think I have had some fear of needing to announce to the world what I believe, for fear it would begin arguments and confrontations, but I am realizing that if I make a commitment to being myself as things come my way, these things reveal themselves to people who it SHOULD be revealed to.  I’ve experienced more support and positive feedback than I thought I would.  I am learning that if I just keep being myself, the universe will flow in the right way without me having to create upheaval here.  That’s my two cents on current authenticity energy.

With this Aries energy, I am conscious of the tendency toward anger or other volatile emotions, and making sure I breathe through those if they come up.

As for that last paragraph, 4 Aries is in my 8th house – a house of death, rebirth, sex (the darker kind), other people’s money, and other uncomfortable areas of change. I am not sure what this means right now, but I will continue to be aware of it…

7 Tips To Harness Tonight’s Supermoon Lunar Eclipse (from MBG)

lunareclipsechroma-825x496

The annual full moon in Aries arrives with extra oomph this year.

In addition to being its fiery, badass self, the September 27, 2015 “blood moon” is also a paradigm-shifting total lunar eclipse. La luna will regale herself in the trademark reddish hues of Aries (hence, blood moon), as all of the Earth’s sunsets and sunrises reflect on her.

Even more unusual: tonight’s eclipsing full moon is also a supermoon — meaning it’s at its closest possible point to earth and will appear 30% brighter. This is only the fifth super blood moon in recorded history — the last was in 1982 and the next will be in 2033.

What have you been striving toward since the spring? This is the week to cash in and collect your comeuppance. New moons take six months to reach their corresponding full moon, and Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. La luna brings you full circle, baby — a time to see the results of your brave actions.

Here are a few tips for harnessing the heat of this super-charged Aries full moon:

1. Make a big, bold move on your own behalf.

Shameless self-promotion is fully sanctioned by the Aries full moon, provided you do it with both sass and class. The zodiac’s Ram is not one to wait for others to sign its permission slip. Instead, Aries energy is about charging ahead and boldly putting your ideas into the cultural mix. Got something to contribute to the world? (Um, of course you do.) Tweet about it, post a status update, or throw a party to share it with friends.

At work, you might harness this Aries firepower to get your ideas in front of higher-ups or write someone you really want to work with a “let’s do lunch!” invitation. On the romance front, stop suffering silently through your love jones. Let your feelings be known in a seductively direct manner. This is a day where big risks bring bigger rewards.

2. Try a fighting sport.

The warrior energy of Aries will be flaring with extra intensity under the light of this full moon. Instead of getting into fisticuffs with an aggressive neighbor or trying to suppress the natural emotion of anger, find a healthy outlet for release. Kickboxing, sparring, Krav Maga, mixed martial arts — this full moon is all about the fighting sports. You might even sign up for that self-defense class you’ve been meaning to take. No, we are not recommending that you start any fights, but when push comes to shove, it will be good to know that you can finish them.

3. Check your head.

Aries rules the noggin, so the head area will come into focus under this full moon. With the radical energies afoot, you might get the urge to make a bold statement and do something edgy with your hair. If you’re not feeling quite so fearless about your tresses, you could also try a piercing, or treat yourself to a symbolically significant pair of earrings, headband, or a funky hat. You might try earrings with balancing stones in them: Jasper is stabilizing and can help keep you cool in a conflict, while Aventurine calms blood pressure and relieves headaches that the Aries full moon has intensify.

4. Make a demand.

Aries is the zodiac’s most entitled sign, and while too much of this energy can be obnoxious, there’s something to the whole “squeaky wheel gets the oil” theory. What do you really, really need support with in your life? What have you been too timid to ask for? The Aries full moon urges you to summon some chutzpah and speak up! Courage is this zodiac sign’s specialty, so be a gallant hero for yourself, a loved one, or a cause.

5. Declare your independence.

Aries is the sign of the self, the star, the solopreneur. It’s time to go forth and bravely do your own thang. If you’ve been sticking around in a bad situation, you might want to cut your losses and move on. We’re not suggesting you rashly cut people out of your life, or march into your job and flip your boss the bird. Thoughtful consideration before you act this week is a must.

The Aries full moon also makes loose contact with radical Uranus — the planet of individuality and sudden changes. Aries is one of the zodiac’s most headstrong signs. Anger is definitely on the rise during this full moon. The key is not to REACT, but to make the more soul-affirming move… to act FOR what you want, rather than against what you don’t.

6. Return to innocence.

As its first sign, Aries is the zodiac’s baby. Much like The Fool card in the Tarot deck — which depicts a merry traveler walking off a cliff — it has an air of blissful, refreshing ignorance. Go into your bubble for a day. Write down whatever you’ve become jaded, hardened and skeptical about. Let go of your past, even if you just suspend it for an hour. What becomes possible now?

7. Burn something.

Arson charges? Oh hell no. But an angry letter that you need to get off your chest? That picture of a hateful ex? Light the matches and burn, baby, burn. Aries is a fire sign. While fire destroys, it also cleanses. So get whatever it is that you’re raging about onto paper, or into a heap, and let the inferno purify the energy.

Lunar Eclipse & Full Moon in Aries: Be the change!

Powerful Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse tonight (in 4 degrees of Aries)
10:51 PM EST (also a Super Moon)

lunar-eclipse

During the next two weeks, we are realizing things that have been suppressed or ignored.
We are considering independence: where do we need to be more assertive, more accommodating? Where are we being too independent, or not independent enough?

This is a time to look at the roles we play in life – think about them in your own life, journal about them, perhaps.

Get your own thinking sorted out internally before having new conversations – look within, be honest with yourself and others. There can be power/control issues right now, so keep choosing love over fear, connecting to others, use what you’re passionate about to empower others. Take a pause, center, collect yourself before communicating with others. Take. Your. Time.

Consider:
Where have the feminine & masculine energies gone out of balance for you?
What happens when there is too much of either?
What roles or contracts do you need to redefine or release?

Time to stretch and grow when it comes to our daily projects – completing tasks may seem to take extra effort these next two weeks. Take it one step at a time, be patient, and give patience to others. Trust the process.

Ask yourself:
What single, simple action could I take right now that would move a project forward?
What should I NOT do until I have a clearer, long-term view?

This full moon is about creating true partnerships that serve you on collective and personal level, make sure they are healthy. A time of bringing people together, mutual empowerment. Look at yourself and as Gandhi said, be the change you want to see in the world.

Don’t jump the gun on anything – if you can watch and observe those urges until mid-October after eclipse season ends, it would be better. Not a good time to push or force anything. If you’re unsure AT ALL, wait! More information will come that you don’t currently have. Be patient, allow yourself to receive this consciousness upgrade.

Why we use incense

“In ancient temples, incense was burned to purify the atmosphere, focus the mind and calm the senses as well as to symbolically carry the prayers and requests of the worshippers to the gods and goddesses above.  As it spirals up to the heavens, the fragrant smoke forges a link between earth and the heavenly realms, becoming a flight-path for prayers, spells and incantations…

Our sense of smell is registered in the part of the brain that is connected with memory, emotion and instinctive activities. Fragrance plays a very important part in controlling our feelings and responses…this response is the basis for choice of the different incenses and oils used in magic: just as they attract or repel us, some scents can be used to attract positive vibrations, and others to drive away negative influences.  Similarly, some scents have a refreshing or energizing action, while others promote calm and relaxation; some aromas invoke sexual desire, while others quell it; some are head-clearing and encourage clarity of thought, while others promote dreams and intuition, creativity and inspiration.”

Leo & the dark side of the sun…

Some days I feel like I should be in a support group admitting that I am a Leo. I generally love being one, but it has some difficult aspects, no doubt.  To be clear, I am a Gemini sun – but being a Leo moon and Leo rising gives me a Leo heart/subconscious and I come across as one too – and my Venus in Leo only adds to the mix!

leo-zodiac-sign-wallpaper

Do you have Leos in your life? A bit about them:

Leo is a fire sign – all about DOING.  Leo is the FIXED fire sign.  So not only doing…but stubborn doing!  (fun, right?)

Leos believe it is ALL possible – and they can imagine it all!

“Leos have an infectious zest for life and a warmth to their spirit, with maybe a small flair for drama and the extravagant. People naturally gravitate towards Leo, attracted to their enthusiasm, balance, and command. But simultaneously, a Leo can be independent. This strong and dignified sign lives by honor, filled with a sense of pride, and treats others with respect. These traits make Leo the ultimate friend.”

Leos:
-are loyal (if their ego is taken care of)
-are confident (but sometimes insecure that others won’t think they’re great)
-are very resilient
-are charismatic
-are bold
-are not easily angered, but when they do get mad, they can roar!…but it subsides quickly, and they forget about it
-are very productive, but in quick bursts, after which they need time to rest and revive
-usually have good hair (random, but true)
-are very picky about their friends and who they want to give time to
-love gemstones and things that sparkle or shine…but throughout life, need to learn that the THINGS don’t always bring the HAPPY
-are passionate, but have to learn how to balance/check this so they don’t get burnt out
-can be impulsive
-are typically involved in lots of things, all the time
-can fear they are “too much” for other people
-are NOT boring, but can get bored easily
-generally may seem not to need others, but they really do…it just doesn’t show.
-are not always easy to love, as they don’t know how to ask for the affirmation and care they need.
-age well, and do learn to ask for love as they mature.

the Leo symbol is the lion, and for good reason…

like a lion, when hurt, a leo will forgive, but doesn’t forget

like a lion, when hurt, they withdraw to care for themselves and their wounds.  they may appear fine, as they keep those injuries hidden. they have their pride, after all.

like cats, leos like time alone to groom and relax

leo parents generally have a lot of lived experience to share and lead with. leo mothers are, like lionesses, very protective – don’t mess with their cubs.

Leo MOON folks: these are musicians and entertainers – they can easily pick up new things. give them a stage!  they can also be a little flighty and scattered.

Leo RISING folks: optimistic, generous, kind – confident, without so much brooding as leo sun people

people with Venus in Leo: love passionately

Leo children: strong, confident, independent – may seem like they don’t need parenting, but they really do…parents have to get under that confident veneer so they can see what the child needs.

stones for Leos:
sunstone – for sacral leadership and inspires Leo to take action and own your desires. It also prompts creativity and brings energy to new ideas.

peridot – a stone of potential, manifestation, possibility, courage, faith and deep abundance. Leo can use it to open up to the breadth of life’s possibilities as well as the depth of life’s meaning.

black onyx helps the you relieve stress. It purifies your thoughts and inner monologue, helping you to think more positively. And as we think, so we believe and behave. This stone can change the Leo’s life.

herkimer diamond – a luminous variety of quartz found only in rare pockets of New York. This stone is known as “the stone of attunement”. The energy of this quartz vibrates high, aligns you with Source energy, and Leos should use it to open the crown chakra.

It’s not always super easy to love a Leo…but they need your love, and once cared for, they will be loyal, and fiercely powerful for you in return!

Libra learning!

My sister is a Libra.  I took a class about the sign last night and told her – she messaged back “you’re going to know so much about me by the time October is over”

(a) I already do, duh
(b) that’s a very libra thing to say!

libra

here’s what I learned…

Libra likes to talk, but not so much about themselves.  They don’t like bullshit though, and hate feeling taken advantage of.  An evolved Libra can kindly express that they’re a nice person, but won’t allow others to step on them.

Libra energy connects to the Empress card in the tarot.

Sexuality can be challenging for them.

They typically feel strongly about animal & human rights.  They want things to be FAIR.

Relationship is super important to them. They sometimes partner very early in life, and will stay in relationships even after they should have exited – they can continue to rationalize why they should stay.  If you know a Libra who is not partnered, chances are they have either (a) been wounded, or (b) are holding out for their ideal partner.  Libras are romantic, and unlike some signs, they tend to hold onto that romance throughout all the years of a relationship – but they don’t like being taken for granted and need to see that it’s reciprocated.  Libra love language is very often words of affirmation.

Libras are usually inherently good at music and other artistic pursuits, and they are into the aesthetics of things.

They disarm people and are very relateable, usually making people comfortable interacting with them.

As an air sign, they do think – a lot.  But as the CARDINAL air sign, they like to get things done! They think through all the options, and tend to be VERY prepared for anything (honestly, quite a lot of doomsday preppers are libras…).  These folks simply like to have a plan.

Typically good with money.

Libra women are assertive, productive, proactive – but the focus is on the task, not them personally. They can sometimes be referred to as having an “iron fist in a velvet glove”, as they come across kindly, but mean business.

Libra men are usually more connected to their feminine side than other signs – this can be a good thing, of course.  They’re eloquent and usually fairly graceful.

Libra RISING folks are talkative, engaging, interested in beauty, natural hosts, people pleasers.  These are the people who will have you over in 15 minutes for a party that no one planned, because they are just that host-y.

Libra MOON folks have some of the more intense and darker Libra qualities – i.e. really overthinking things, and feeling resentful if they are not appreciated.

In life, soul work for Libras involves learning that it is OK not to please everyone.

Libras pair well with other air signs, as long as there’s not TOO much talking (they have a limit) – also pairs well with most fire and earth signs.

When parenting a Libra, make sure you are understanding of any gender ambiguity – this is something a lot of Libra children wrestle with a bit in the path to understanding themselves. These kiddos really want to please you!

So, what does libra need?
-to get grounded
-to unplug
-to find an artistic outlet
-to let go of what they think they “should be” doing

Libras need to find what makes their soul sing – and then to find a vocation that allows them to do that…and, in truth, they need to find their ideal partner.

Stones for Libra:
Bloodstone: for bodily healing and care (they don’t always take care of their health)
Rainbow obsidian: to transmute negative energy and heal the aura (libras easily absorb energies from around them, and that’s not always good)
Opal: to enhance that awesome creativity, connection, imagination
Ametrine: to bring spiritual strength, fortitude, power, courage

Libra readers: yes, no? Maybe?

This weekend: Aries Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse

13887678662_94be660e75_h

An Aries Full Moon calls out our need for independence, self love, courage to lead and take the steps needed to tread a new path, reliance on our own inner fire.  A powerful, bright moonlight will be shining on the Inner Masculine.  We are infused with the strength and energy of Mars while the Libra Sun on the other axis seeks cooperation, justice, beauty and social diplomacy.  Relationships: the Self and Other are the theme of this Full Moon/Total Eclipse.

The lessons of Self and Other are perfectly highlighted and emphasized by the presence of the feminine asteroid Vesta closely aligned with the Full Moon and asteroid Juno accompanying the Libra Sun. Vesta teaches us to draw our sexual energy upward and inward so we can commit it to our own work, dedicate it to manifesting our ideals in the world, archetypally protecting the ‘sacred hearth and flame’ in dedication to a higher ideal. With the Moon so close and strong, we may need to attend to our own emotional world. Vesta has similar qualities to Virgo. We may find ourselves called to holding sacred space to partake of the highest frequencies possible, calling on our inner Aries warrior to stretch our capacities to hold more, clarifying our purpose and methods, or surrendering the known for the great mystery.

Juno, goddess of committed relationship, in Libra, sign of relationship, is in the same degree as the Libra Sun. Here is a Moon cycle dedicated to the reconciliation of the out of balance archetypal gender polarity we see acted out all over our planet ~ and in the most extreme way in the relationship to our beautiful Mother Earth.

The Eclipse/Full Moon and asteroid goddesses representing the Feminine (in masculine signs I might add) are closely aligned with the North (Sun) and South (Moon) Nodes which says this is a collective message and where we need to grow and surrender the old ways of being. Honor, forgive and bless the Masculine. Holding blame and resentment towards what has gone before only contributes to that old energy. This powerful eclipse portal is the opportunity to reset our gender polarity in a gargantuan way. Expression may come in personal relationships, your business engagements, or within yourself and your past.

Saturn is our ally here, having finally left Scorpio in the last week and re-entered the sign of Sagittarius. At this Moon, the Lord of Karma is asking us, ‘how are you going to create a new vision of balanced masculine and feminine relationship in your life?’ as he aligns positively with the Nodes in their last weeks of Aries/Libra.

Mercury is retrograde as of September 17 residing in Libra for two whole months instead of the usual three weeks. Doesn’t that point to the same place the Nodes, Full Moon, asteroids, eclipse, and Sun are pointing to? How clear does the cosmos have to make it for us? Even after Mercury goes direct on October 9 it doesn’t leave Libra until November 1. Plenty of time to bring our lives into balance speaking with greater heart, moving from place to place consciously, singing the song of “I am so blessed, I am so grateful…” in our every action. Mercury retrograde is our opportunity to strengthen all our networks that keep us connected in our physical life.

Having weathered numerous challenges this month, learned about ourselves and how we handle a huge uptick in energetic force, and stood as focused as possible in our truth, use this Full Moon in Aries with total lunar eclipse to set your sights on what you want to create for the whole next season. You have so much available to you. Roll all the excitement and courage and energy of Aries ability to strike off in a new direction into a grand reset.  Align to relationship that is built on truth and where your goals for yourself are shared.  Honor the mystery of the dark time as the Earth blocks the light of the Sun to the Moon in this eclipse.
